Colour theory workshops with @textiledesignfalmouth 's stage one students!
Across these sessions, I show the students how to create a range of chromatic blacks and greys. Colours that breathe and respond to their environment! We look at secondary colour biases, experiment with contrasts, referencing Johannes Itten's theories and learn ways of using gouache. I'm looking forward to working with stage two in November, where we look at colour in relation to market and audience!
Many years ago, artist Hella Jongerius had an exhibition all about colour at the Design Museum in Kensington, which was absolutely brilliant. Did anyone here see it? It has been one of many sources of inspiration for these workshops. I mention it because there is a print out of a piece of her work in the image at the top (the piece laying flat above the colour wheel). Her studies and ways of showing how metamerism & material change the way we perceive colour are so innovative and fascinating. If this is a subject you are interested in, I highly recommend looking at Jongerius's work!

How lucky he is to find an unattended display of his favourite treats. The odd grape, red currant or raspberry help to maintain such vibrant plumage.

Last week, Voysey House held an event to celebrate the launch of The Unfinished Works and to preview @cabanamagazine Issue 24. I had the privilege of being invited along to work on a wallpaper, live!
Here, I am starting to sketch the foundations on the 1st of 5 wallpaper panels. As with all of the projects that I have worked on with the Sanderson Design Group, this wallpaper will be hand rendered and completed at full scale!
The Unfinished Works is a beautiful new collection by @wmorrisandco in collaboration with @thehuntingtonlibrary. Original, incomplete sketches by William Morris & John Henry Dearle have been uncovered from the museum's archive and thoughtfully produced in this new collection.
'In an unspoken exchange between artists throughout history, we have picked up the pen laid down by William Morris and John Henry Dearle to create The Unfinished Works.' - Morris & Co
A huge thank you to Morris & Co for having me at the event & to their incredibly talented, in-house design team: @jclywrth @jodie__cooper @e.s.textile.design @cayte.designs @mal.k.designs
A special extra thank you to @jodie__cooper, who filmed this!

A satisfying finishing touch!

A rather awkward space to paint at the top of the landing, but still great fun! Fortunately, I could reach some of the lower flowers from the stairs.
As you can see, the bannisters here are also in the middle of being painted.

A brilliant exhibition by Liberty Fabrics ! Sharing lots from their archive. Some artworks for shawls from 1850 and tiles by William De Morgan & William Morris!!
It's fascinating to see their hand drawn repeats up close. The variety of media and process. Their notes for dyes and print blocks; the paper used. Areas of the designs that were reworked and then collaged back onto the original piece (see no.4). And the colour!!
